Biz Quiz consists of in person and online competitions, both of which are based on business news content from Financial Times. In-Person: Biz Quiz includes an individual competition consisting of a multiple-choice exam and a team competition consisting of a buzz-in quiz contest. Online: Biz Quiz consists of a multiple-choice exam.

Biz Quiz will be held on November 15-16, 2024 online at professional.ft.com/biz-quiz and in-person at the UC Davis Graduate School of Management.

In-Person
Participation in Biz Quiz is by invitation only. Teams consist of three graduate business students in MBA, Master of Finance, and other graduate programs.

Online
Participation for Biz Quiz Online is open to all! We highly encourage students to compete to give them an edge in their studies and job hunting.

Questions are derived from select content appearing in the Financial Times over a six week reading period between October 1 and November 10, 2024. A copy of the reading guide will be automatically sent to all participants that sign up.

In-Person
The in-person competition will have individual and team award winners. Individual award winners (determined by a multiple-choice exam) will receive the following: $1,000 for 1st Individual Prize, $750 for 2nd Individual Prize, and $500 for 3rd Individual Prize. Team award winners (determined by the final round of the buzz-in quiz contest) will receive the following: $3,000* for 1st Team Prize, $2,400* for 2nd Team Prize, and $1,800* for 3rd Team Prize. *Please note the team prizes will be split evenly amongst the three student competitors on each winning team. For example, the 1st Team Prize of $3,000 will be broken down into 3 payments of $1,000 to each student.

Online
The online competition will have one individual winner (determined by an online multiple-choice exam) and will receive $600 for 1st Place

In-Person
Yes, each team should have a staff or faculty coach present during the team competition. Coaches are responsible for raising challenges on behalf of their team. Students may not raise challenges on their own.

Online
The online competition is for individuals and a coach is not required.

No, there is no fee to register.

In-Person
There are two important deadlines; the first to commit to sending a team and the second to register the names of your individual student team members. Business schools must commit to sending a team no later than September 3, 2024. The competition will likely fill up before this deadline, and we encourage your school to commit early by contacting Stephanie Young-Birkle at syoungbirkle@ucdavis.edu. Once your business school has been confirmed as participating, you will have until October 24, 2024 to register your individual team members.

Online
We recommend signing up as early as possible to prepare for Biz Quiz Online, but will accept new participants up until November 14, 2024.

Financial Times will provide a complimentary trial subscription to participating universities or individuals for the contest period. Information about how to activate your trial will be sent to participants after they sign up.
